Ready to Ride

Here I am, on the last day of vacation, beginning a blog about my horse because I am so ready to get home and ride I can hardly stand it.

There is a mini trial (Beginner Novice) coming up in two weeks, and after our last cross-country fiasco there is still a lot of work to be done!! Gave up riding cross-country in the snaffle for the time being, at least until Hickory's herd-bound instincts lessen (giving running back to the barn his all). For now we are going with a pelham, large round rubber, short shank--and its working like a charm! Still, I've got to get braver about letting him really gallop out and trust that I can still be in control... but we're getting there!

Apart from jumping there is also dressage to worry about. Good old Beginner Novice Test A! Maybe this time we can get in the low 50s or even the 40s!!! That pesky right lead! And also requiring some attention is our pas de deux with Chica! It's to Shania Twain "Party for Two."

I'll be home in 24 hours!
